ANDERCON 2015 – Main Event : Athena Leicester
With a view to making Andercon 2015 more accessible geographically to fans and attendees, we’ve pulled away from London and the Home Counties.
We travelled the UK looking for a characterful venue, a world away from a hotel function suite or convention centre and we’ve found the most wonderful and striking venue for our celebration of the visual art of Gerry Anderson.
Athena, located in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter, is a fully restored, listed, 1930’s art deco cinema. Designed by Robert Arthur Bullivant, the building first opened its doors in 1936, operating as an Odeon cinema for much of its life, before closing its doors in the 1990s.
Now fully restored and operating as a convention, entertainments and exhibitions venue, it not only retains its classic Art Deco beauty, but it boasts a superb AV rig in the main space together with an impressive 10 metre HD projection screen – both of which will be used in our most unconventional of conventions.
